We will obviously be in touch with you by letter, email and telephone throughout the transaction but we thought that this brief guide to the Remortgaging process may be of assistance to you and help you to understand what is going on in what can be a rather confusing process.

Step 1Choose your lender and the amount of mortgage you require.
Step 2Complete and submit mortgage application form.
Step 3Obtain quotation from your solicitor.
Step 4Instruct your solicitor, returning any questionnaire received from your solicitor as promptly as possible.
Step 5The solicitor will carry out local authority search or obtain appropriate search insurance, if appropriate.
Step 6The solicitor will obtain copy title documents from Land Registry.
Step 7The solicitor will check the title.
Step 8Mortgage offer is received from lender and solicitor will check its terms.
Step 9The solicitor will send Mortgage Deed to customer for signature.
Step 10The solicitor will agree with you the date upon which you would like to complete your mortgage.
Step 11The solicitor will obtain a redemption statement from your existing lender (if any) setting out the amount required to repay the existing mortgage.
Step 12Request mortgage money from new lender.
Step 13Carry out final Land Registry and Bankruptcy searches.
Step 14Complete remortgage by repaying existing mortgage, sending to you detailed financial statement together with any funds due to you.
Step 15The solicitor will register change of mortgage and redemption of existing mortgage with Government Land Registry.
